Ring in the New Year in style with the HogmanHoway 5K – a brand-new night-time run through the streets of Newcastle on 31 December 2025. Fast, festive and open to all, with elite athletes, club runners and first-timers invited to join the celebration.
A new tradition begins
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the HogmanHoway 5K – a brand-new city-centre running event lighting up the streets of Newcastle on New Year’s Eve, 31 December 2025.
Organised by Events of the North, the race brings you the opportunity to experience a fast, closed-road 5K right in the thick of the festive atmosphere of the city’s New Year celebrations.

Date: Wednesday 31 December 2025
Start times:
- 7:10 pm – Elite 5K race
- 7:25 pm – Mass race (open to all aged 11 +)
Location: Newcastle City Centre – start and finish at the Civic Centre
Route: Flat, fast and fully closed to traffic – three laps through illuminated city streets
Entry Includes:
- Chip timing and official results
- Bespoke HogmanHoway 5K medal
- Limited-edition event buff
- Festive New Year goody bag
- Secure baggage facilities and toilets
Entry fees:
- Early bird – £19 (until 31 October)
- Standard – £22 (from 1 November)
- £2 discount for UKA-affiliated runners
(Entries close 29 December or when full – no on-the-day registration.)
Elite invite shout-outs
We’re excited to confirm that the inaugural HogmanHoway 5K will feature an elite invitation race, welcoming some of the region’s fastest athletes to battle it out at the front of the field.
The elite races will feature 10-12 athletes in each of the men’s and women’s fields, battling it out for a share of the £14K prize fund – with prizes going to the top three men and women as well as time bonuses and an opportunity to clock one of the final elite times of 2025 on a World Athletics Ratified Course.
